Job Description

BASIC: The Asphalt Plant Mechanic performs safe and skilled work in the maintenance and repair of asphalt plant equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Manage maintenance and operation to minimize plant down time and support field operations.
• Service and grease all asphalt plant components.
• Helps to ensure compliance of all plant operation.
• Assist in maintaining plant property and equipment in good condition in compliance with regulations to insure effective operations.
• Participates as a crewmember in daily production operations and assists in plant preventive maintenance as assigned.
• Has the mechanical inclination to fix typical mechanical failures and/or inconsistencies with the machinery.
• Report any problems to plant operator.
• Perform daily pre–and–post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
• Identify maintenance problems, preventive maintenance items, worn equipment parts, emissions controls, and any housekeeping items.
• Visually observe and monitor critical gauges associated with the plant process.
• Must be able to move levers to regulate flow of materials to and from conveyors, chutes, pumps, or storage bins.
• Assist other operators or maintenance personnel when heavy or awkward duties are required.
• Handle special projects as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND VISUAL ACTIVITIES:
Physical and visual activities that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job: Standing (90%), Walking (50%), Lifting up to 100 lbs. (20%), Pulling (25%), Stooping (40%), Handling (50%), Carrying (25%), Pushing (25%), Reaching (20%), Crouching (50%), Talking (60%) and Hearing (100%) Far and near acuity and field of vision. Reading small and fine print. Physical agilities test may be required.

ENVIRONMENTAL/ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS:
• Working in Extreme hot and cold climates
• Working around high levels of dust
• Working around various types of chemicals, including gasoline, oil, diesel and other lubricants
• Exposure to loud noise

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma/GED
• Pre-employment drug screening
• 6 + months of previous experience managing high volume asphalt plants preferred

KNOWLEDGE:
• Understand job requirements

Experience:
• Experience working around mechanical equipment
• Experience working around asphalt or concrete manufacturing plants desirable.

Machines, Tools and Equipment (Office and Industrial), Software:
Use of personal safety equipment including:
• Hard Hat
• Vest
• Safety glasses
• Hearing protection
• Dust mask
• Safety work boots (non-steal toe)
• Ability to use hand and pneumatic tools
• Understanding of ground and landscape layout

Licenses/Certification:
Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Working Conditions:
1. Regular hours, overtime involved
2. Hot in summer and cold in winter.

5. Dust, grease, oil, dirt and various chemicals on job site
